After reading “The Killing of John, John and John”, I jumped on the offer to review this new story by Elizabeth O’Neill. I’ve come to the conclusion that this author has a knack for writing thought provoking brutally honest stories situated around Scotland’s low socio economic population.
This story made me cringe in my seat because it is bleak, depressing, yet the black incredibly dry humor makes you smile, despite the depressing elements. Why depressing? It is because, wherever we live, we have an impoverished community that battles with homelessness, alcoholism, domestic violence and mental health issues somewhere near us.
Her characters are solid and unforgettable. The plot is carefully crafted and executed. Would I read another story by this author….Yes, definitely. She makes me look at my community with compassion.
